Description

This course focuses on fundamental skills needed to effectively communicate with patients, families, clients, providers, vendors, and supervisory personnel in the outpatient clinical setting. Different types of communication, including: verbal, non-verbal, written, and electronic communication; as well as, barriers to communication are explored. Emphasis is placed on specific developmental and behavioral theory, including: Maslow, Erikson and Kubler-Ross, as a framework for effective communication in the clinical setting. Students will develop an understanding of the role of coping mechanisms, diversity, and coaching in clinical communication to ensure patient health care needs are met and to assist them in effectively navigating the medical office and outpatient clinical care setting with effective communication. Prerequisite: CMAC 100, CMAC 102, officially accepted into the Certified Medical Assistant Certificate program and following the required sequence of courses, E and R. Corequ
