Description

The purpose of this course is to aid the student in acquiring the fundamental principles of pharmacology. Major content areas include basic concepts of pharmacology, legal aspects, National Patient Safety Goals (client rights to safety in medication administration), nutrition as it relates to pharmacology, and identifying pattern manifestations of children, pregnant women, and adults. Other content areas include the introduction of the therapeutic effects of pain medications, and anti-diabetic medications; pharmacological effects on body tissues, human responses to drug therapy, and the application of assessment and evaluation in relation to prescribed drug therapy. Prerequisites: Admission to the Practical Nursing Program. To progress in the program, the student must maintain a grade of “C†or better in general education and program courses.
