Description

The focus of this theory and clinical course will be the utilization of the nursing process in the care of the family throughout the childbearing years, newborn period, and during childhood. The theoretical aspect of the course introduces basic nursing care of the family unit, including: human reproduction; pregnancy; antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum care; newborn care; growth and development; and care of the child with common diseases and illnesses. Assessment of the various life styles, cultures and concepts of the family, family roles, and interdependent relationships as they relate to the childbearing years will be incorporated. The clinical aspect of this course involves direct individual nursing care of the obstetric, neonatal, and pediatric clients (gynecologic clients in certain facilities).
