Description
This course will be designed as an introduction of pharmacology for the Practical Nurse student. Foundational learning for pharmacology will include the application of pharmacology for the Licensed Practical Nurse role, safe practice, standards and principles of care, the nursing process, pharmacodynamics, pharmacokinetics, metabolism, distribution, excretion, etc. Drug classifications/categories will be covered in this course as an overview for patient education and health promotion. Individual drugs/categories will be embedded throughout the curriculum for additional learning and application with disease processes and promotion of health. Prerequisites: Officially accepted into the Practical Nursing Certificate program and following the required sequence of courses. Concurrent: This course is intended to be taken concurrently with NURS 1102, NURS 1102, NURS 1103, and NURS 1105.
