What degree should a transfer student follow while at Bay?

Students who plan to transfer should be following the Associate in Arts or Associate in Science degree programs. The general approved electives in these programs generally are courses that a student would select based off of the transfer institution's transfer guides and/or the required courses which would be part of the student's bachelor degree.

Do all Bay College courses transfer?

Bay College courses are extremely likely to transfer, but certain courses are not designed to transfer, such as developmental or remedial courses. Other  certificate programs or Associate in Applied Science degrees are designed to train students for employment, not for transfer.

How do I know if a course will transfer?

You will only know if a course will transfer if you follow a pre-designed transfer guide from your next institution, OR if you see the equivalent on www.mitransfer.org. A conversation with an Admissions advisor or Registrar staff at your next institution can also clarify your transfer as well, especially if your next institution is located outside of the state of Michigan.

Will a transfer guide for one university work for another university?

Unfortunately, no. Different institutions may have different course requirements. You will want to work with your next institution to ensure you are completing courses that will fit into your transfer degree.

What is the Michigan Transfer Agreement (MTA)?

The Michigan Transfer Agreement (MTA) is designed to transfer general education requirements between participating Michigan institutions. By completing an Associate in Art or an Associate in Science degree, students will automatically have earned MTA. Students can also meet the requirements of MTA by completing the specific requirements with a grade of "C" or better. Upon successful completion of the MTA requirements, a notation will be placed on your Bay College transcript when requested to be sent to another school. The MTA requirements, and potential courses can be found in the Bay College catalog: https://catalog.baycollege.edu/

Do I have to complete an Associate degree before transferring?

No, but it is to your advantage. Students may be more eligible for scholarship awards or be awarded a higher standing if a degree is earned.

What if I decide to or need to transfer BEFORE completing an Associate degree at Bay College?

There are some situations where transferring to another institution before obtaining a Bay College degree may benefit a student. If you find yourself in that situation, Reverse Transfer for completion may be for you. When you transfer out, notify the Records and Registration office at degreecompletion@baycollege.edu from your Bay College e-mail that you are transferring early, but would like to participate in Reverse Transfer for degree completion. An audit will be performed for the requirements that still need to be met at Bay College. Once those requirements are met at your next institution, you can transfer those credits BACK to Bay College to be awarded a degree.

Will my GPA transfer?

Grade point averages do not transfer; rather credits transfer. However, transfer institutions may use a student's GPA for admissions requirements. Generally, most courses that have a grade of a 'C' or better will be eligible to transfer, depending on your next institutions transfer policies.

Bay accepted my an Advanced Placement exam, will the transfer institution also honor this credit?

Not necessarily. Some universities require a higher exam score (4 or 5) for AP credit to apply. You must request official transfer of your AP Scores to be sent to your next institution from CollegeBoard where the scores will be evaluated by your next institution. Certain specialty colleges may not accept AP scores.

Will a transfer institution accept Advance Standing (AS) credit?

Generally, no. Advanced standing (AS) credit is articulated credit between Bay College and the educating institution and awarded solely for Bay College credit.
