Dear Future Nursing Student,

Thank you for your interest in the Associate Degree Nursing (RN) Program at Bay College! We are excited to guide you through the application process for our highly competitive program. Please read the following carefully to understand the steps and prerequisites for entry to the program.

Pre-Requisite Requirements

The only entrance criteria for our Nursing Program are the completion of BIOL 213 – Anatomy and Physiology I (or its prerequisites). Students must meet with our Allied Health Co-Advisor, Ruth Bradway(Ruth out of office through September) or Jillena Rose, to discuss which courses remain to meet the prerequisites for the program.

It’s important to note that it can take up to a year to complete the necessary courses to qualify for entry into the program. Make sure you start early!

Ranking Process for Admission

  • If you have completed BIOL 213 with a “C” or better: Your application will be reviewed first.
  • If you have not completed BIOL 213 yet, check if you can enroll in this course by meeting the pre-requisite requirements. If so, you can enroll in BIOL 213.
  • If you don’t meet the pre-requisite requirements for BIOL 213 yet, you’ll need to complete the required Biology and Chemistry courses to fulfill the pre-requisite requirements for BIOL 213. This will help calculate your GPA, which is used to rank applicants.

BIOL 213 Pre-Requisites

  1. Biology Requirement:
    • High school biology (2 semester grades) or
    • College Biology (specifically BIOL 104 at Bay College)
  2. Chemistry Requirement:
    • High school chemistry (2 semester grades) or
    • College Chemistry (CHEM 102 lecture & CHEM 104 lab at Bay College)
Note: The Chemistry course has a math pre-requisite of MATH 105 or meeting the math requirements through your high school GPA (minimum 2.5 and completed within the last 10 years).

How We Calculate Your GPA:

For example, if you have:

  • High School Biology: Two B grades (3.0 GPA)
  • Chemistry: One C grade (2.0 GPA)

Your GPA is calculated by averaging your grades:

  • 3.0 + 2.0 = 5.0, divided by 2 = 2.5 GPA

Important Dates

  • RN Escanaba Program (Fall 2025): Seats will be awarded no later than July 30, 2025.
  • RN Iron Mountain (Winter 2026): Seats will be awarded no later than December 1, 2025.

You will receive an official letter awarding your seat in the program via your Bay College email from our Allied Health Admissions Team.

Common Questions?

  1. Why can't I enroll in Nursing classes? The Nursing program is a competitive entry process, which requires students to rank competitively to be in the program. The Entrance requirements are listed above.
  2. What do I do if I am not selected for a seat into the RN degree and am sent an email that I am waitlisted?  You will need to work with your co-advisor to enroll in classes that are the General Education classes within the Associate of Nursing degree you can enroll in ahead of time.  If you have all of those GE's complete you can look at taking further general education classes that will count towards your Bachelors of Nursing after your RN.  In nursing you can continually earn higher levels of degrees while out working.  You would follow the Associates of Arts degree.
  3. Why would I be offered and Escanaba seat when I specifically asked for Iron Mountain?  In the ranking process all names are in the same Eligibility process.  We automatically offer those who are awarded a seat from highest to lowest no matter what campus.  You are emailed the option to enroll in the program seat being offered, even it is not the seat of your choice.  You have the option to decline.  If you decline, your seat will your file stay in the ranking for the next awarding process to occur, so that would be Winter semester Iron Mountain.  Escanaba and Iron Mountain studnets are all offered seats at Iron Mountain campus.  If you decline, you go back to the pool of names for Fall of the next year.
