CMA Certified Medical Assistant- Consortium

CMA Certified Medical Assistant is not competitive entry but is a program where you start MA classes with a CoHort of students.

The Cohort begins each Fall Semester Online Full Time or Part Time through Consortium. You can enroll in a few Bay classes online and a few classes through the Consortium College Southwestern Michigan College (SMC) online.  Our office helps you through the entire process. This is a program where you must be successful in each semester with a "C" or better to continue on to the next semester.  Students must have met the English requirement of Meeting the E & R to start the first semester courses.  E & R can be met by enrolling and completing with a "C" or better ENGL 101 Rhetoric and Composition or completing Compass/SAT/ACT: see link to minimum scores .

Students can choose to take non MA classes ahead of starting in the program. When a student completes the degree the primary exam to complete is the AMT or CMA exam.

Medical Assistant courses in the consortium:

Two Semesters in 2526: 

Medical Assistant Courses for Certification

MEDA 210 MA Clinical Procedures 5 Credits Hybrid-MANDATORY: Meets 1st Day of School and Mid November, for required lab days. All other content is remote for this class with SMC/MCO. (can only register with assistance from Deanna Robinette)

MEDA 211 MA Pharmacology- 3 Credits Online: this class is with SMC/MCO course 

MEDA 212 MA Diagnostic and Lab Procedures 4 credits Online: this class is with SMC/MCO (Students meet mid March on campus for a 8 hour a day lab at Bay College for Eight Hours/MANDATORY).

HEED 137 Disease Overview 3 credits online: this class is with SMC/MCO. 

HEED 101 Medical Terminology 3 credits online: this class is with SMC/MCO. 

MEDA 245 Medical Assisting Internship 4 credits: Students are in clinical experiences in this class  SMC/MCO course (can only register with assistance from Deanna Robinette)Background check, drug testing and Immunization requirements for clinics are collected by the Program Director.  In preparation there will be a fee of close to $100 for student to pay in the second Fall semester.

MEDA 251 Medical Assistant Seminar 1 Credit SMC/MCO course (can only register with assistance from Deanna Robinette)- Students are prepared to complete Boards for AAMA's - AMT license.

Costs in Consortium

Cost is $210.00 per Credit hour in SMC/MCO courses with a $206.00 Additional tuition fee.

 

How the Cohorts work:

Students start the MA program every Fall semester:

Bay can register students into SMC/MCO courses through August 2025. 

MEDA program classes begin one week later than Bay Courses star September and go through December for Fall Semester

Winter/Spring 2026 MEDA courses start one week later January 21st and go to May 9th, 2025

Summer courses start June and go into August .

Transition to Consortium classes from SMC.

A transition happens to a new Advisor when it is time to register for MEDA Courses.

Students must then work with Deanna Robinette to Register for the MEDA courses.

Students must have the ability to enter Human Biology at Bay or BIOL 104.  This requires meeting an English requirement.

This is all verified prior to being awarded a seat to start in our program for Fall.
