Radiologic Technology Education Program Associates

Radiography Associates

This is a competitive entry program; students must apply to Allied Health's Radiography program by selecting Apply Online to the left of the screen.

The curriculum is formulated on the principle that the student radiographer’s education should blend knowledge and skills derived from a program of studies including the natural sciences, mathematics, social sciences, computer sciences, health principles, and communication skills with radiography principles in developing the skills needed to enter the field as a beginning practitioner. As a member of the patient-oriented team of health occupation specialists, the radiographer utilizes basic knowledge and skills to contribute to patient care in the provision of diagnostic services as indicated by patient needs.Accreditation and/or State Board Approved

Admission is competitive. The higher the GPA of BIOL 213 or BIOL 214, HLTH 118, MATH 105 or higher, the better chance students have of entering the program.

Only four to eight local seats are available each Fall semester. It depends on what the facilities open for students in the Upper Peninsula.

The Radiography program is offered through a partnership between Bay College and the Michigan Workforce Training and Education Collaborative(MWTEC).  Educational Programs in the Collaboration (EPiC) in the consortium for the purpose of sharing instructional resources to offer healthcare programs. Total Program seats of 32.  Students from the Upper Peninsula only have the option of attending Schoolcraft Memorial Hospital, Manistique Michigan for all positioning labs.

Could a student be awarded a seat and want to move to Lower Michigan?  Yes, this it is a possibility.  You would have to move starting Winter semester in year one.  The area where seats would be open is near the Battle Creek area or Detroit area. There is travel to clinics and hospital settings in that area.  This would be special circumstances and there has to be availability for a student in this area.

Upper Michigan Pre requisites- It is highly recommended students complete BIOL 213, HLTH 118 and MATH105 prior to May of each year.  The admissions review begins after May grades post.  The admissions criteria ranks a student based on highest GPA of completed pre requisite classes. All classes must be passed with a “C” or better in the program sequence or anything taken ahead of time. If a class was taken ahead of time it will be used in the calculated GPA for admissions.

SOUTHWESTERN COMMUNITY COLLEGE:

Southwestern Community College (SMC) - SMC student entrance requirements are set by Southwestern Community College.  Southwestern notifies our Program Director which students will be attending Bay's program. The students will be in RAD classes in Bay's system and pay for their classes at Bay by setting up a payment plan by Early August.  Southwestern Community College students graduate at Southwestern Community College.

SSM Career Coaches are the only ones who authorize the student to be awarded a seat each fall, and they notify our Program Director.  The students should work right with careercoaching@ssmhealth.com to see if they qualify.  Students should not apply to Bay unless directed to by SSM Career coaches

LOWER MICHIGAN HOSPITAL Apprenticeship:

Lower Michigan Hospital Apprentice- Students can apprentice through a Michigan Hospital.  For Example Henry Ford Hospital has had an apprenticeship program.  Students must meet all pre requisites of BIOL 213, BIOL 214, MATH 105 or higher, COMM 103, SOCY 151 and HLTH 118 to be awarded a seat in May as the program begins each August.  Henry Ford authorizes students to be a part of our program and they work with our Program Director to be in our program.

In an apprenticship,  the students Hospital offers the apprenticeship to the student.   The MWTEC RAD Program Director will be the one who will work with a student-ONLY if the student has all pre requisites complete and has a Hospital system willing to apprentice the student.  The specified Michigan Hospital willing to apprentice must set up an affiliation  agreement with MWTEC RAD Program Director/Bay College, and this can take up to eight months to complete.  Why? Sometimes the department RAD staff wants to have an apprentice, but the organization itself has processes they must go through to sign an apprentice affiliation agreement.  A Michigan Hospital student is a Bay student, and would graduate from Bay.

OUT OF STATE:

Out of State- Out of State students could complete this program with additional steps.

The student will need to have all General Education classes complete of BIOL 213, BIOL 214, MATH 105 or higher, COMM 103, SOCY 151 and HLTH 118 complete to be awarded a seat in May as the program begins each August.

Additionally: The student has to have a Hospital that is willing to apprentice them. The MWTEC RAD Program Director will be the one who will work with a student-ONLY if the student has all pre requisites complete and has a Hospital system willing to apprentice the student.  Out of state also means the MWTEC RAD Program Director/Bay College must obtain an affiliation agreement with the hospital, and this can take up to eight months to complete.  Sometimes the department  RAD staff wants to do this, but the organization itself has processes they must go through to sign an affiliation agreement outside of their state.
